3 Tips for The Modern Woman

Ditch the toxins
Female products are all loaded with toxins. What we put on our body is absorbed through our skin and then our poor over worked liver must try to deal with all the artificial junk!

Did you know that tampons are made from synthetics, polypropylene, rayon, viscose and conventional cotton( the most heavily sprayed crop in the world, using more than 25% of the worlds total insecticides). There are massive chemical processes involved in the production of rayon and polypropylene. Then we place it in the most absorbent part of our body!

When we make the choice to go toxic free, we enable our bodies to breathe and function normally. There is an incredible amount of products on the market to fulfill the need for the  health conscious women, however you can keep it simple and save a fortune at the same time! Coconut oil is a fantastic moisturizer, mix it with some baking soda and you have a deodorant and it also is a great make up remover. Try making toothpaste with it or mix it with sugar and use it in the shower as a scrub!

My fave organic and earth friendly brands are Lavera ( best make up and hair care), Zuii, and Fresca. For feminine hygiene products it has to be TOM organics. You can get these from Woolworth's!

Flush the gunk out
We all know that we need to drink water as our body is up to 60% water with our brains a whopping 70%. Water is your body's principal chemical component and every system in your body needs it. Water flushes toxins from organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues. But how many of us are actually getting enough in each day?

There have been many investigations and they produce varied results. A good rule of thumb I have found is that if you have bad breath, tiredness, a headache, are constipated and have dark and strong smelling urine, chances are you have not had enough water.

A tip to keep you sipping is to fill up 3 glass litre bottles of an evening and have one in your bedroom. Upon waking, down a good amount, which helps kick start your body for the day and “get things moving”. If you are not going to the toilet regularly and suffering from constipation, then all the toxins are just being reabsorbed by your body.

Measure your intake by watching how much of the 3 bottles you get through and adjust accordingly. Maybe you will require less, this is just a way for you to gauge what is right for yourself. Add some fresh mint, lemon or lime juice if you are bored with the taste.

High on nutrients, low in calories
If you had a car that required petrol, what would happen if you put diesel into it? It would likely start, then soon stop and not start again. Cue expensive bill from the mechanic ( I speak from experience ). So why do we put foods into our bodies that are dead and empty of vitamins and nutrients yet high on calories?

So our body sends out signals for more food as it is nutritionally starved, yet we keep feeding it dead meals and the weight just continues to climb. We are what we eat, therefore, let us choose living and alive foods high in nutrients so that our body can regenerate new cells, skin and keep us running throughout our day.

Organic produce is always the best, it has not been grown in nutritionally depleted soils, no pesticides and although it may look odd compared to the stock on supermarket shelves, the taste will be out of this world.
If we increase our intake of raw foods, then our bodies are able to digest all the good stuff  and the energy boost is unbelievable.

It is common sense really, cooking food over 118 degrees Fahrenheit destroys much of the nutrients in the food. This includes natural enzymes which help break down nutrients. Think juices, green smoothies and delicious home made dips which will all deliver all the natural goodness to you without the bloating, gas and other complaints most of us suffer after a large cooked meal. And it is easy!

I am a huge advocate of taking a zero tolerance policy to refined sugars. When I first decided to remover artificial sugar from my diet I was shocked to discover it in a glass of crushed garlic, on corn chips and in my fave frozen turkey I loved to buy. It is in everything. It was hard at first, but the numerous health benefits that you can enjoy easily outweighed the difficulties.

Try it for a week and see how you feel!
